Ahi Preparation
Miyos Special Ahi Don Sauce
Method
Ahi Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Ahi
Cut the Ahi tuna steak into bite-sized pieces or strips.
- 2
Make Tempura Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and baking powder. Gradually add ice water while whisking until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be somewhat thick but still pourable.
- 3
Heat Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Batter and Fry Ahi
Dip each piece of Ahi into the tempura batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered Ahi into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Miyos Special Ahi Don Sauce
- 5
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until well combined.
- 6
Garnish
Stir in sliced green onions and sesame seeds into the sauce.
Assembly
- 7
Serve the Ahi Don
Place the fried Ahi on a serving plate and drizzle with Miyos special Ahi Don Sauce. Serve immediately with steamed rice and additional sauce on the side if desired.
