Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is ready when the batter is complete.

  2. 2

    Prepare Cake Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prevent sticking. You can also line the bottoms with parchment paper for easier removal.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until well combined.

  2. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be quite thin; this is normal.

  4. 6

    Add Chocolate Chips (Optional)

If desired, fold in chocolate chips into the batter for added chocolate flavor.

Baking

  1. 7

    Pour Batter into Pans

Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared cake pans.

  2. 8

    Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  3. 9

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
