Pork Preparation
Prepare the Pork
Rub the pork shoulder all over with Hawaiian sea salt. Pour the liquid smoke over the pork, ensuring it coats the meat evenly.
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it rest for a few minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
BBQ Sauce
Make the BBQ Sauce
In a bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix well until fully combined.
Combine with Pork
Add the shredded pork to the BBQ sauce and mix well to ensure the pork is thoroughly coated.
Sandwich Assembly
Prepare the Coleslaw
In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Mix until evenly coated.
Assemble the Sandwich
To assemble the sandwiches, place a generous amount of the BBQ pulled pork on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Top with a spoonful of coleslaw and cover with the top half of the bun.
Serve
Serve the Kalua Pork Sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
