Beef Filling

Bierock Dough

Method

Beef Filling

  1. 1

    Cook the Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3 minutes until the onion is translucent.

  3. 3

    Mix in Cabbage

Stir in the shredded cabbage, salt, black pepper, and soy sauce. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the cabbage is wilted. Remove from heat and let cool.

Bierock Dough

  1. 4

    Prepare Yeast Mixture

In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 5

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

  3. 6

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the yeast mixture and the melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 7

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 9

    Shape the Bierocks

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch circle.

  3. 10

    Fill and Fold

Place a generous spoonful of the beef filling in the center of each dough circle. Top with a slice of American cheese. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.

  4. 11

    Bake

Place the filled bierocks seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 12

    Serve

Let the bierocks cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with shredded lettuce and your choice of salad dressing.
