Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once cooked, let it sit for 10 minutes, then transfer to a bowl.
- 2
Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat it gently until the sugar dissolves, then pour it over the warm rice. Gently fold the rice to combine, being careful not to mash the grains. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
- 3
Prepare the Fillings
Slice the salmon fillet into thin strips and the avocado into thin slices.
- 4
Assemble the Roll
Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface. Lay a nori sheet on the mat, shiny side down. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
- 5
Add Fillings
Place a few slices of salmon and avocado horizontally across the center of the rice.
- 6
Roll it Up
Using the bamboo mat, carefully lift the edge closest to you and start rolling it away from you, tucking in the filling as you go. Keep rolling until you reach the exposed edge of the nori. Moisten the edge with a little water to seal the roll.
- 7
Slice the Roll
Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 8 equal pieces. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts to ensure clean slices.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the sushi rolls on a plate and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
