Fried Okra

Method

Frying the Okra

  1. 1

    Prepare the Okra

In a bowl, combine the sliced okra and buttermilk. Let it soak for about 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In another bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Coat the Okra

Remove the okra from the buttermilk and let excess liquid drip off. Toss the okra in the cornmeal mixture until well coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Okra

Fry the coated okra in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making the Comeback Sauce

  1. 6

    Mix Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 7

    Chill

Refrigerate the sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving.
