Preparing the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish the Sauce
Stir in the chopped basil and set the marinara sauce aside to cool.
Making the Lemon Aioli

Combine Ingredients
In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, and salt until well combined.

Refrigerate
Cover the aioli and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Preparing the Calamari

Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first in the flour, then in the egg, and finally in the cornstarch mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Arrange the crispy calamari on a serving plate.
