Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 6

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with milk. Mix until well combined and smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.

  2. 7

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving Suggestion

  1. 8

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
