- 1
Prepare the Vanilla Bean
Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with the back of a knife.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, salt, vanilla seeds, and the scraped vanilla bean pod. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot, but not boiling.
- 3
Chill the Mixture
Remove from heat, add the vanilla extract, and let the mixture cool for about 30 minutes. Remove the vanilla bean pod.
- 4
Chill in Refrigerator
Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to fully chill.
- 5
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- 6
Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
