Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks if not pre-cut. Each stick should be about 3-4 inches long.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place flour in the first, beat the eggs in the second, and mix the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

First, coat each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off the excess. Then, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture to fully coat. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Freeze the Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

  5. 5

    Fry the Sticks

In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches, cooking for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Cook the Garlic

In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes to the saucepan. Season with dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add fresh basil just before serving.
