Burger Ingredients

Caramelized Onions

Onion Strings

French Onion Au Jus

Method

Caramelized Onions

  1. 1

    Cook the Onions

In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar halfway through to enhance sweetness.

Onion Strings

  1. 2

    Prepare Onion Strings

Slice the onion thinly and soak in the milk for about 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan. Dredge the soaked onion slices in the flour mixture and fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Burger Preparation

  1. 3

    Form and Cook the Burgers

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Form into two patties. Grill or pan-fry over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of brie cheese on top of each patty to melt.

French Onion Au Jus

  1. 4

    Make the Au Jus

In a saucepan, sauté chopped onion until translucent. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Assemble the Burger

Place the cooked burger patty with melted brie on the bottom half of the bun. Top with caramelized onions and crispy onion strings. Serve with a side of the French onion au jus for dipping.
