Main Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Season and Cook the Steak

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Season the New York strip steak with salt and black pepper. Add olive oil to the skillet or brush it on the grill. Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare (internal temperature of 130°F). Adjust cooking time based on your preference for doneness.

  2. 2

    Rest and Slice the Steak

Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to retain juices. Then, carve the steak into thin slices.

Preparing the Garlic Toast

  1. 3

    Prepare the Garlic Butter

Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 4

    Toast the Bread

Slice the French bread in half and brush the garlic butter mixture onto the cut sides. Toast in the oven at 400°F for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy.

Preparing the Au Jus

  1. 5

    Make the Au Jus

In a saucepan, heat the beef broth over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes, reducing slightly to concentrate the flavors.

Assembling the Dips

  1. 6

    Assemble the Mini Dips

Layer sliced steak and Gruyere cheese onto the toasted garlic bread. Pour warm au jus over the top and serve immediately.
