For Cooking

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well until all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the warm water, plain yogurt, and olive oil. Stir gently until the yogurt is dissolved in the water.

  3. 3

    Form the Dough

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and gradually pour in the wet ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Cooking Naan

  1. 6

    Preheat the Skillet

Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until hot.

  2. 7

    Shape the Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into an oval or circle about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Cook the Naan

Place one naan on the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 9

    Add Ghee or Butter

Brush the cooked naan with melted ghee or butter immediately after removing it from the skillet. Repeat with remaining dough.

  5. 10

    Serve Warm

Serve the crispy naan warm, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or alongside your favorite dishes.
