Ribs

5 Spice Marinade

For Cooking

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ribs

Start by trimming any excess fat from the pork ribs. Rinse the ribs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Season the Ribs

Rub the ribs with salt and black pepper evenly on both sides. This will enhance the flavor of the meat.

  3. 3

    Make the Marinade

In a bowl, combine five-spice powder, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Mix well until the honey is dissolved.

  4. 4

    Marinate the Ribs

Place the ribs in a large zip-top bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Make sure they are well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

Cooking

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).

  2. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. This will allow the fat to drain away from the ribs.

  3. 7

    Cook the Ribs

Remove the ribs from the marinade and place them on the wire rack. Reserve the marinade for basting. Bake the ribs in the preheated oven for 2 hours.

  4. 8

    Baste the Ribs

Every 30 minutes, brush the ribs with the reserved marinade to keep them moist and flavorful.

  5. 9

    Finish Under the Broiler

After 2 hours, switch the oven to broil and cook the ribs for an additional 5-10 minutes until the surface is caramelized and slightly charred. Keep a close eye to avoid burning.

  6. 10

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven, let the ribs rest for a few minutes, then slice and garnish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
