Instructions for Onion Rings
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- 3
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, coat the battered ring in breadcrumbs. Repeat until all rings are coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place a few onion rings in the hot oil and fry them for about 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
