Directions
- 1
Prepare the Root Beer Base
In a large pot, combine the water, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugars are fully dissolved.
- 2
Add Flavoring
Stir in the sassafras root bark, sarsaparilla root, vanilla extract, and wintergreen oil. Let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes.
- 3
Cool the Mixture
Remove the pot from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- 4
Carbonate the Root Beer
Once cooled, strain the mixture to remove the solid ingredients and pour it into a clean fermentation container. Add the yeast and stir gently to combine.
- 5
Ferment
Seal the container with an airlock or a lid that can release pressure. Let it sit at room temperature for 2-3 days to carbonate.
- 6
Refrigerate and Serve
Once carbonated, refrigerate the root beer to stop fermentation. Serve over ice and enjoy!
