Classic Cocktails
- 1
Chill the Glass
Begin by chilling a rocks glass. Fill it with ice water and set it aside while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Prepare the Mixing Glass
In a mixing glass, combine the rye whiskey, simple syrup, and bitters. Add ice to the mixing glass until it is about three-quarters full.
- 3
Stir the Mixture
Stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled and diluted.
- 4
Rinse the Glass with Absinthe
Discard the ice water from the chilled rocks glass. Pour in the absinthe and swirl it around to coat the inside of the glass. Discard any excess absinthe.
- 5
Strain the Cocktail
Using a strainer, pour the chilled whiskey mixture into the prepared rocks glass over fresh ice or neat, depending on your preference.
- 6
Garnish
Express the oils from a lemon peel over the drink and drop it in as a garnish.
