Supli Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

In a saucepan, bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Add the Arborio rice and a pinch of salt. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  2. 2

    Cook the Meat Filling

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent. Add ground beef and pork, cooking until browned. Season with salt and black pepper. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix the cooked rice, meat mixture, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.

  4. 4

    Form the Supli

Take a small amount of the rice mixture and flatten it in your palm. Place a cube of fresh mozzarella in the center and mold the rice around it to form a ball. Repeat with remaining mixture.

  5. 5

    Coat the Supli

Roll each rice ball in breadcrumbs until fully coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Supli

In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the rice balls in batches, frying until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve hot, optionally with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
