Cocktail (served in bottle)

Method

Cocktail (served in bottle)

  1. 1

    Chill bottle

Place a 12 oz Miller High Life bottle in the fridge or freezer for 15–30 minutes so it is well chilled before preparing the cocktail. A cold bottle helps retain carbonation when you combine ingredients.

  2. 2

    Mix Aperol and citrus

In a mixing glass or small pitcher, add 2 oz Aperol, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional). Add 1 cup of ice and stir gently for about 10–15 seconds to chill and slightly dilute the mixture.

  3. 3

    Strain into bottle

Remove the chilled Miller High Life bottle from the fridge. Using a funnel or a steady hand, carefully strain the mixed Aperol–lemon mixture into the bottle. Pour slowly down the side of the bottle to minimize foam and preserve carbonation. Aim to leave about 1/2–1 oz headspace at the top.

  4. 4

    Top with beer

Slowly pour the remaining unpoured Miller High Life (if any remains in bottle, simply cap has been removed — if you used a new chilled bottle, pour the beer gently from a separate chilled bottle) into the bottle to fill it. Pour down the side to reduce foam. The beer will combine with the Aperol mix to create a bright, slightly bitter, effervescent cocktail.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Gently twist a lemon wheel and slip it into the bottle neck or mount it on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw or with the bottle cap removed so the drinker can sip directly from the bottle.

  6. 6

    Notes on balance

If the cocktail tastes too bitter, add up to another 0.25 oz simple syrup next time. If it’s too sweet, reduce Aperol by 0.25–0.5 oz. Fresh lemon juice is important for brightness; bottled lemon will work but may taste flatter.
