Method

Cheeses

  1. 1

    Temper and prepare cheeses

Remove all cheeses from refrigeration 30–45 minutes before serving to come to room temperature — this enhances flavor and texture. While cheeses rest, trim rind from the goat cheese log if desired for presentation: slice into 1/2‑inch rounds or leave whole and provide a spreader. Cut the aged cheddar into a mix of 1/4‑inch slices and 1/2‑inch cubes. Place the brie whole (or cut a wedge to display interior) and set the blue cheese in a small wedge. Arrange cheeses on the platter with space between each to allow guests to approach easily.

Cured meats & accompaniments

  1. 2

    Prepare meats and pickles

Fold or roll prosciutto and soppressata slices into loose rosettes or simple folds for easy picking — about 2–3 slices per cluster. Spoon marinated olives into a small bowl and place on the board. Arrange cornichons in a small pile near the meats to provide a palate‑cleansing bite.

Breads & crackers

  1. 3

    Toast baguette and arrange crackers

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Slice the baguette on a diagonal into 1/4‑inch slices. Lightly brush both sides with olive oil (optional) and bake 6–8 minutes until just crisp and lightly golden; cool slightly. Alternatively, use store‑bought toasts. Fan slices and scatter assorted crackers around the cheeses, keeping sturdier crackers by the spreadable cheeses and delicate ones by harder cheeses.

Fruits, nuts & spreads

  1. 4

    Prepare fruits, nuts and spreads

Halve the grapes and arrange in small clusters. Quarter the dried apricots and scatter near the brie and chèvre. Spoon fig jam into a small ramekin and place on the board with a small spoon. Scatter toasted walnuts in a small pile. Drizzle honey over a portion of the blue cheese or place a small honey bowl with a dipper beside the sour cheeses for guests to add as desired.

Garnish & finishing

  1. 5

Finish the platter by tucking rosemary sprigs between sections for aroma and visual height. Lightly crack black pepper over the brie or goat cheese (optional). Ensure every component from the ingredients list is visible and reachable; fill any gaps with extra grapes, crackers or nuts. Serve with cheese knives and small spoons for jams and honey.
