Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

If desired, chill the Old Fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. Place one large clear ice cube or sphere in the glass before finishing the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Build and stir

In a mixing glass add 2 oz Angels Envy Barrel Pick bourbon, 0.25 oz demerara simple syrup, 0.25 oz Luxardo cherry syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters. Add enough ice to fill the mixing glass. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 25–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (the mixing glass exterior will feel cold and lightly frosted).

  3. 3

    Strain and serve

Using a strainer, pour the chilled cocktail over the prepared big ice cube in the Old Fashioned glass. Allow the cocktail to briefly settle so it warms slightly to drinking temperature while keeping dilution minimal.

  4. 4

    Garnish

Express an orange peel over the cocktail by holding it skin-side down over the glass and giving it a firm twist to release the oils. Rub the peel around the rim if desired, then drop it into the drink. Finish by adding a Luxardo cherry on a pick or resting on the ice.

  5. 5

Serve immediately with a short straw or without — sip slowly to enjoy the barrel-aged notes and the subtle maraschino sweetness.

Demerara Simple Syrup (2:1)

  1. 6

    Make syrup

Combine 2 parts demerara sugar and 1 part water in a small saucepan (for example 1 cup demerara sugar and 1/2 cup water). Warm over low heat, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves. Do not boil. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.

  2. 7

    Store

Transfer cooled syrup to a clean bottle or jar. Refrigerate up to 2–3 weeks. Measure 0.25 oz for the cocktail as listed above.
