Patty Melt Ingredients

Preparation

Patty Melt Directions

1. Cook the Onions

In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

2. Cook the Beef Patties

In a separate bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form into two equal patties. In the same or a different skillet, cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty to melt.

3. Assemble the Patty Melt

Spread Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of Texas toast. On two of the slices, place a cooked beef patty with melted cheese, then top with the sautéed onions. Cover with the remaining slices of toast, dressing side down.

4. Grill the Sandwich

In the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the assembled sandwiches and grill until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Press down slightly with a spatula for better contact with the skillet.

5. Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot with extra Thousand Island dressing on the side if desired.
