Method

Fried Mushrooms Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mushrooms

Clean the button mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove the stems if desired. Pat them dry with a paper towel.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add cold water, whisking until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Batter the Mushrooms

Dip each mushroom into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mushrooms

Carefully lower the coated mushrooms into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, flipping halfway through.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried mushrooms with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with ranch or blue cheese dressing.
