Method
Preparation
Chill glass
Place a coupe glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Measure ingredients
Measure 2 oz white rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh white grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz maraschino liqueur, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Add a generous amount of ice to the shaker (about 6 oz by volume of ice). Seal and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.
Fine strain
Discard the ice or water from the chilled coupe. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh (Julep) strainer to remove small ice shards and pulp for a silky texture.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a single cocktail cherry or a small lime wheel/twist perched on the rim or floated in the drink, if desired. Serve immediately.
