Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chickpeas

If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight in water. The next day, drain and rinse them, then cook in boiling water for about 1 hour until tender. If using canned chickpeas, simply drain and rinse them.

  2. 2

    Chop Garlic

Peel and chop the garlic cloves to help them blend more easily.

Blending

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, chopped garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and cumin (if using).

  2. 4

    Blend Until Smooth

Blend the mixture until it is smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the food processor to ensure everything is well mixed.

  3. 5

    Adjust Consistency

If the hummus is too thick, add a little water (1 tablespoon at a time) until you reach your desired consistency.

Serving

  1. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with paprika, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve with pita bread, vegetables, or crackers.
