Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Directions

1

Prepare the Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

2

Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough if frozen. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan or microwave.

3

Layer the Phyllo Dough

Brush a 9x9 inch baking dish with melted butter. Lay 4 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter before adding the next.

4

Add the Nut Filling

Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the top layer of phyllo. Then layer another 4 sheets of phyllo dough on top, again brushing each with melted butter.

5

Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the layered baklava into diamond or square shapes, ensuring to cut through all layers.

6

Bake the Baklava

Place the baklava in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

7

Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.

8

Soak the Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, pour the hot syrup evenly over the cut baklava. Allow it to soak for at least 2 hours before serving.
