Churros

Method

Churros

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Mix in Flour

Once the mixture is boiling, remove it from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until fully combined and a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs

Allow the dough to cool slightly, then beat in 2 large eggs one at a time until the mixture is smooth and glossy.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

  5. 5

    Pipe the Churros

Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe strips of dough, about 6 inches long, into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors.

  6. 6

    Fry the Churros

Fry the churros until golden brown, about 2-4 minutes on each side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Coat with Cinnamon Sugar

In a shallow bowl, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar with 2 tablespoons of cinnamon. Roll the fried churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.

Chocolate Sauce

  1. 8

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  2. 9

    Add Chocolate Chips

Remove from heat and add 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes to melt.

  3. 10

    Stir in Vanilla

Whisk the mixture until smooth, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
