Fried Green Tomatoes

Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices. Sprinkle with salt and let sit for 15 minutes to draw out moisture. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place flour in one, buttermilk in the second, and a mixture of cornmeal, salt, and black pepper in the third.

  3. 3

    Bread the Tomatoes

Dip each tomato slice in flour, then into the buttermilk, and finally coat with the cornmeal mixture. Ensure they are well coated.

  4. 4

    Fry the Tomatoes

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded tomato slices in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Dish

Layer the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese on a serving plate. Drizzle with roasted garlic ranch dressing and serve with a side of bacon jam.
