Focaccia Dough

Method

Focaccia Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Add the yeast mixture and 1/4 cup of olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Grease a baking sheet or a rectangular pan with olive oil.

  6. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to the baking sheet. Spread it out with your fingers to fit the pan.

  7. 7

    Second Rise

Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  8. 8

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  9. 9

    Add Toppings

Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the dough. Sprinkle dried oregano and coarse sea salt on top.

  10. 10

    Bake the Focaccia

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  11. 11

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm with additional olive oil for dipping.
