Method

Batter Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, and black pepper. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk. Mix well. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

Onion Preparation

  1. 3

    Slice Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 0.5-inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside in a bowl.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the heat by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  2. 5

    Coat Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, making sure it is fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once fried, remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
