Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chicken

Rinse the whole chicken under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Season the Chicken

In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the chicken, ensuring it's well coated.

Smoking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Smoker

Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C). If using wood chips, soak them in water for about 30 minutes before adding them to the smoker.

  2. 4

    Smoke the Chicken

Place the seasoned chicken on the smoker grate, breast side up. Pour the chicken broth into the water pan of the smoker. Close the lid and smoke the chicken for about 3 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Serving

  1. 5

    Rest the Chicken

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the smoker and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.

  2. 6

    Serve with Sides

Carve the chicken and serve it alongside your choice of sides such as corn on the cob, coleslaw, baked beans, or garlic bread.
