Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This will ensure that your Iron Rail dish cooks evenly.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk and melted butter. Mix well until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine.

Baking

  1. 5

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.

  2. 6

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, and sliced green onions evenly over the top of the batter.

  3. 7

    Bake

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serving

  1. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the Iron Rail from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm with a dollop of sour cream on top.
