Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Skillet

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet in the oven to warm up.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

In the same bowl, add the melted butter, large eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.

  3. 5

    Fold in Add-Ins

If using, fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Cooking

  1. 6

    Pour Batter into Skillet

Carefully remove the preheated skillet from the oven and pour the brownie batter into it, spreading it evenly.

  2. 7

    Bake the Brownies

Return the skillet to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  3. 8

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove the skillet from the oven and allow the brownies to cool in the skillet for 10-15 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
