Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Rub
In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to create a spice rub.
- 2
Rub the Pork
Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork, ensuring it's well coated. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Cooking
- 3
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour the apple cider vinegar over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Discard any large pieces of fat.
- 5
Add BBQ Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix in the BBQ sauce. Allow it to cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to warm through and let the flavors meld.
Serving
- 6
Assemble the Sandwich
Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Pile a generous amount of the pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles.
- 7
Serve
Place the top half of the buns on the pulled pork and serve with your choice of two sides. Enjoy!
