Method

Preparing Mac & Cheese

  1. 1

    Cook the Macaroni

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese and cream cheese until melted and smooth. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  5. 5

    Combine with Macaroni

Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well combined.

Preparing Protein Options

  1. 6

    Heat the Protein

If using chopped prime brisket or smoked pulled pork, warm the meat in a saucepan over low heat until heated through.

Serving

  1. 7

Assemble the BBQ Mac & Cheese Bar

In a serving dish, place a generous portion of the mac & cheese. Top it with your choice of protein (brisket or pulled pork) and drizzle with barbecue sauce. Serve with additional sauce on the side.
