Sushi Rice
Sushi Rolls
Sashimi
Method
Prepare Sushi Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.
- 2
Cook the Rice
In a rice cooker, combine the rinsed sushi rice and water. Cook according to the rice cooker's instructions.
- 3
Season the Rice
Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl. In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the rice while it's still warm. Allow to cool to room temperature.
Prepare Sushi Rolls
- 4
- 5
Assemble the Roll
Place a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. Wet your hands to prevent sticking and grab a handful of sushi rice. Spread the rice evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
- 6
Add Fillings
Layer the cucumber, avocado, crab sticks, and cream cheese across the center of the rice.
- 7
Roll the Sushi
Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the nori away from you, applying gentle pressure to shape the roll. Seal the edge of the nori with a bit of water.
- 8
Slice the Roll
Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts for clean edges.
Prepare Sashimi
- 9
Slice the Fish
Using a sharp knife, slice the fresh salmon, tuna, and yellowtail into thin, even slices.
- 10
Plate the Sashimi
Arrange the sashimi slices on a platter and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
