Filling

Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Chop the peeled and deveined shrimp into small pieces and transfer them to a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

In the mixing bowl with the shrimp, add the ground pork, finely chopped mushrooms, green onions, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

  3. 3

    Chill the Filling

Cover the filling mixture with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Shumai Assembly

  1. 4

    Prepare the Wonton Wrappers

Take the wonton wrappers out of the packaging and keep them covered with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out.

  2. 5

    Fill the Wrappers

Place a spoonful of the filling mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper. Gather the edges of the wrapper around the filling and pinch to create a small open-top dumpling.

  3. 6

    Prepare for Steaming

Once all shumai are assembled, place them on a steamer tray lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Cooking

  1. 7

    Steam the Shumai

Bring water to a boil in a steamer pot. Place the steamer tray with shumai over the boiling water, cover, and steam for about 15-20 minutes until the pork is fully cooked and the shumai are translucent.

  2. 8

    Serve

Carefully remove the shumai from the steamer and serve hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
