Method

Cleaning Mussels

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the mussels under cold running water. Scrub the shells with a brush to remove any dirt and remove the beards (the fibrous strands) from the mussels.

Cooking Mussels

  1. 2

    Prepare to Steam

In a large pot, add the water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, add the cleaned mussels to the pot.

  2. 3

    Steam the Mussels

Cover the pot and steam the mussels for about 5-7 minutes, or until they have opened. Discard any mussels that do not open.

Making White Wine Garlic Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Garlic

In a separate pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Wine and Season

Pour in the white wine, salt, and black pepper. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly reduced.

  3. 6

    Finish the Sauce

Stir in the chopped parsley and remove from heat. Pour this sauce over the steamed mussels before serving.

Making Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Sauté Garlic

In a separate pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Season

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 9

    Finish with Basil

Stir in the chopped basil before removing from heat. Pour this sauce over the steamed mussels before serving.
