Biscuit

Sausage Gravy

Hashbrowns or Grits

Method

Biscuit

  1. 1

    Prepare the Biscuit Dough

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually stir in the buttermilk until just combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 30 seconds. Pat or roll out to about 1-inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.

  3. 3

    Bake the Biscuits

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 4

    Cook the Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the country sausage until browned and crumbly. Drain excess grease if necessary.

  2. 5

    Make the Gravy

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.

Hashbrowns or Grits

  1. 6

    Prepare the Hashbrowns

Cook frozen hashbrowns in a skillet as per package instructions until crispy.

  2. 7

    Make the Grits

In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Stir in the grits and salt, reducing heat to low. Cook until creamy, about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 8

    Add Baby Kale (Optional)

Stir in baby kale into the grits during the last few minutes of cooking until wilted.
