Sandwich and Fries

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Curing the Corned Beef

If not using store-bought corned beef, cure the beef by brining it in a solution of water, salt, sugar, and spices for 5-7 days. Rinse and cook until tender.

  2. 2

    Making the Thousand Island Dressing

In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, sweet pickle relish, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Adjust seasonings to taste.

  3. 3

    Preparing the Fries

Peel and cut the potatoes into fries. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the potatoes until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes per side. Season with salt.

  4. 4

    Assembling the Sandwich

On a slice of black Russian bread, layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut. Spread Thousand Island dressing on another slice and close the sandwich.

  5. 5

    Grilling the Sandwich

Grill the sandwich in a skillet over medium heat until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Serving

Serve the sandwich hot with hand-cut fries and house-made ketchup on the side.
