Form the Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 lb of certified Angus beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, making them slightly larger than the burger buns.

Cook the Patties
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.

Toast the Buns
While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Build the Double Smash
On the bottom half of each toasted bun, layer a lettuce leaf, followed by a beef patty with melted cheese, a generous scoop of caramelized onions, and two pickle slices. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of secret sauce over the toppings and cap with the top half of the bun.
