Chicken Wings

Sauce (optional)

Method

Preparing the Chicken Wings

  1. 1

    Marinate the Wings

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Add the chicken wings to the bowl, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and cornstarch. This will create a crispy coating for the wings.

Frying the Wings

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Coat the Wings

Remove the chicken wings from the buttermilk marinade, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge each wing in the flour and cornstarch mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  3. 5

    Fry the Wings

Carefully add the coated wings to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

  4. 6

    Drain the Wings

Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the wings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Saucing (Optional)

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sauce

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add hot sauce, honey, and garlic powder, stirring until combined and heated through.

  2. 8

    Toss the Wings

In a large bowl, toss the fried wings with the prepared sauce until they are evenly coated. Serve immediately for best flavor.
