Prepare the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a rub.

Season the Pork
Rub the spice mixture generously all over the pork shoulder. Make sure to cover all sides.

Prepare the Slow Cooker
Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.

Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.

Mix in BBQ Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with BBQ sauce. Let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to warm through.

While the pork is warming, toast the buns in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.
