Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a rub.

  2. 2

    Season the Pork

Rub the spice mixture generously all over the pork shoulder. Make sure to cover all sides.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Slow Cooker

Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.

  4. 4

    Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions and garlic. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  5. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.

  6. 6

    Mix in BBQ Sauce

Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with BBQ sauce. Let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to warm through.

  7. 7

    Toast the Buns

While the pork is warming, toast the buns in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Spoon the pulled pork onto the toasted buns. Top with coleslaw if desired.

  9. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your BBQ pulled pork sandwiches!
