Naan Ingredients

Method

Naan Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast is activated, add it to the flour mixture along with yogurt and olive oil. Mix until a dough starts to form.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape Naan

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape.

  7. 7

    Cook Naan

Preheat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed.

  8. 8

    Serve

Brush with melted butter or ghee if desired and serve warm.
