Method

Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape and Second Rise

Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.

  6. 6

    Bake Bread

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

  7. 7

    Cool Bread

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Cultured Butter Preparation

  1. 8

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream and cultured buttermilk. Mix well.

  2. 9

    Churn Butter

Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat the mixture on medium-high speed until it separates into butter and buttermilk (about 8-12 minutes).

  3. 10

    Rinse Butter

Collect the butter and rinse it under cold water to remove excess buttermilk. Squeeze out any remaining liquid.

  4. 11

    Season Butter

Add salt to taste and mix until well incorporated. Transfer to a serving dish.
