Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti and set aside, keeping it warm.

Making the Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Cook Ground Beef

Increase the heat to medium-high and add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Wine and Tomatoes

Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for about 2 minutes. Then add canned tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring to combine.

  5. 8

    Season the Sauce

Sprinkle in dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and let the sauce simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 9

    Combine and Serve

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
