Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together 1.75 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 0.75 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder, 1.5 teaspoons of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add 2 large eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 0.5 cups of vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in 1 cup of boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat 0.5 cups of unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add 0.5 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder and 3 cups of powdered sugar, alternating with 0.25 cups of whole milk. Mix until smooth and well combined. Finally, stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Assembly and Serving

  1. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  2. 9

    Serve with Ice Cream

Cut slices of the chocolate cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
