Method
Preparing the Dough
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
- 2
Cut in Butter
Take the stick of unsalted butter and cut it into small cubes. Add the butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3
Combine Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and the egg until fully combined.
- 4
Form the Dough
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently with a spatula until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
Shaping and Baking
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 6
Shape Scones
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Use a sharp knife or a pastry cutter to cut the dough into 8 wedges.
- 7
Bake Scones
Transfer the wedges to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
- 8
Cool
Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before serving.
Serving
- 9
Serve Scones
Serve the warm scones with clotted cream and your choice of jam. Enjoy!
