Preparation
- 1
Muddle the Sugar
In a mixing glass or an Old Fashioned glass, add the Demerara sugar and a splash of water (or club soda) to help dissolve it. Use a muddler to crush the sugar until it dissolves completely.
- 2
Add the Bitters
Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the muddled sugar and mix well to combine.
- 3
Pour the Bourbon
Add 2 ounces of Buffalo Trace bourbon to the mixing glass or directly into the Old Fashioned glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
- 4
Stir the Mixture
Using a bar spoon, gently stir the mixture for about 20-30 seconds to chill and dilute the drink slightly.
Garnishing
- 5
Prepare the Garnish
Using a vegetable peeler or knife, carefully cut a twist of orange peel about 1 inch wide. Make sure to get some of the white pith to enhance the aroma.
- 6
Add Garnish
Gently express the oils from the orange twist over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a slight twist. Then, drop it into the glass. Finally, add the Maraschino cherry on top as a finishing touch.
