Steak and Seasoning

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the New York Strip Steak out of the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with olive oil on both sides. Season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat until hot. You can test the heat by sprinkling a few drops of water; they should sizzle immediately.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

Once the pan is hot, place the steak in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to form a nice crust. Flip the steak and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust according to your desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Add Flavor

During the last minute of cooking, add the fresh rosemary to the pan for flavor enhancement. Optionally, you can also baste the steak with the pan juices.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  7. 7

    Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately with your favorite sides.
